obsessed with: billboard music awards

The red carpet of the Billboard Music awards saw many hits and misses this year. Trends seen include cutouts, sheer fabric and lots of black. Here are my best and worst dressed!

Selena Gomez was spot on with this Dolce and Gabbana cutout gown. I love the red shoes peeking out!

Kelly Rowland looks hot in hot pink! This Herve Ledger bandage dress looks absolutely fabulous on her body, and the bright color really steals the show.

I love Kylie Minogue’s lacy Alexander McQueen cocktail dress. It’s perfectly fun and flirty for this event!

And onto the mess-ups… Ke$ha shows us how NOT to wear cutouts in this Jad Ghanour glittery gown. I know it’s her thing to look sleazy, but this dress it too weird.

Mary J. Blige wore this Marc Bouwer leopard print gown that flatters her figure, but looks sort of cheap to me.

I’m not really sure where to begin with Nicki Minaj and this Mark Fast jumpsuit. I think it speaks for itself.

Your thoughts? Do you agree or disagree with my picks?

obsessed with: denim

Denim is definitely in this season — and no I’m not talking about the Double Denim Dilemma of a jean jacket topping jeans! This summer dresses are the way to wear it. Combined with some leather it gives a laid-back, boho look that’s sure to draw the right attention. Stella McCartney kick started the trend this season, but more designers are sure to follow. Be sure to keep this look casual by pairing it with light accessories or a bright bag.

Alessandra Ambrosio in Genetic Denim.

Kate Bosworth in Mulberry.

Kirsten Dunst in Stella McCartney.

Sienna Miller in Isabel Marant.

current obsession

Let’s not talk about how long it’s been since I’ve blogged. To make a long story short, my excuses are midterms, spring break and a hard drive crash. But during my time away from blogging, I’ve been working on my dress designs for my art thesis class. Hopefully they will be revealed on here soon! I’ve also been accumulating a list of more things to become obsessed with.

My new MacBook Pro. I can’t stay off of it. Now I have no more hard drive crash excuses, though.

Target GO International Designer Collection. I’m so thankful Target decided to do this collection. I love that the designers made low-budget dresses without compromising any of their design. I bought this Rodarte dress! I can’t believe I own a Rodarte piece that cost me less than $50!

My Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray. This spray is awesome for fine, wavy hair like mine. It has salt water in it, which gives hair a beachy look.

Kook, by Peter Heller. I find this book fascinating, especially being from a surf town. Heller is a really honest writer, and his story is fun and challenging. I’m going to finish it as soon as my projects are turned in!

Why did it take me until today to discover this delicacy?!! They are only $1.65 for 12 pops and they are so delicious! I’m trying lime next.

obsessed with: the academy awards

It’s so hard to process any information at the moment because I’m distracted by James Franco’s good looks. I also think I may have just become an Anne Hathaway fan. She looked great on the red carpet. Now, on to my best and worst dressed!

My best dressed is (let me tell you it was tough) Natalie Portman. The dress is by Rodarte and about a million times better than her Golden Globes dress. She looks stunning with that baby bump.

Scarlett Johansson was a close runner up for me. She’s wearing a cutout Dolce and Gabanna dress and her whole look is really pretty. People seem to be hating on this look though…

Giuliana Rancic looked awesome in her Christian Siriano gown. Unfortunately there aren’t any high quality pictures of her since she didn’t walk the red carpet. Can she nominate herself for best dressed on fashion police?

Mila Kunis is spot-on at every award ceremony. Tonight she’s wearing Elie Saab and it looks so elegant and graceful on her.

Melissa Leo opted for a Marc Bouwer high-necked gown that’s seriously awesome. The look is just unique enough for the Oscars while still being elegant and feminine.

Camilla Alves: the neckline on her black gown looks so fitting on her

Halle Berry: do I even have to say anything? when doesn’t she look fabulous?

Sandra Bullock: red was an excellent color choice for Sandra. the cut of this gown is perfect for her.

Michelle Williams: happy to see something that didn’t resemble her Golden Globes gown. she should stick to Chanel.

Helena Bonham Carter: she is a boss. this dress is awesome and so her style.

My worst dress pick is without a doubt Cate Blanchett. This dress is by Givenchy and looks like it was fastened together with barnacles. If anyone nominates her for best dressed they are seriously disturbed.

Gwyneth Paltrow, what were you thinking? This Calvin Klein dress makes you look like you could star in one of my favorite Disney Channel original movies, “Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century.” What’s with that belt thing? Serious;y, why does everyone think this is OK?

I don’t even know why Florence Welch is here. Maybe she’s performing? Anyway, she looks homeless.

When will Nicole Kidman learn that white is not her color? Who is her stylist? Please don’t tell me it’s Rachel Zoe, I’d die. She’s so prone to wearing whites and nudes and pastels, and I just don’t understand. She’s too pale for this Dior gown.

Marisa Tomei really led me on for a minute. The camera started at her face and I thought everything was working out, until it panned down to her legs. The part of that dress is so bizarre, it ruins the whole ensemble.

Hailee Steinfeld: I don’t like your headband. you’re so young, wear something bright and fun!

Hillary Swank: how many birds were killed during the manufacturing of your gown?

Jennifer Hudson: too tight, too low cut.

Annette Bening: the beading on this gown is far, far too much.

Rhea Durham: Mark Wahlberg’s wife needs to fire whomever dressed her.

obsessed with: nyfw

I was originally planning on compiling a best/worst dressed list for the Grammy’s, but after Lady Gaga showed up inside of an egg I changed my mind and decided to start my fashion week coverage. What better way to start than with my girl Victoria? Her collection featured relaxed silhouettes and shirt-dresses in desert-colored cashmere. She also tried her hand at structured wool coats, and definitely succeeded. I’m really impressed with her overall collection. She certainly has a place in this industry.

the happiest news of the weekend

My idol Victoria Beckham is reportedly having a girl!!! I can barely contain my excitement! What I would give to be her nanny, personal assistant, best friend…

The Sun’s report.

obsessed with: screen actors guild awards

I found last night’s red carpet to be more unimpressive than most. Why did everyone wear that nude/skin tone color? The only person it looked good on was Hillary Swank, and that was a stretch. I hope the Oscars are everything I envision them to be! With that said, here are my best dress picks.

Mila Kunis, again wins my best dressed vote. This Alexander McQueen gown could not be any more perfect for her. Enough said.

Tina Fey shocked everyone in this fabulous red strapless gown. The embellished bodice of this Oscar de la Renta gown gives her just enough spunk, and was certainly an exciting stray from her typical black and navy gowns.

Eva Longoria looked absolutely stunning in her Grecian-style Georges Hobeika gown. Though the color was a little drab, she played it up with her eye-popping makeup and elegant updo.

Helena Bonham Carter did it! She looked so appropriate and funky. This dress really played up her unusual style while still being elegant and fashion-forward.

I’m no “Glee” fan, that’s for sure, but Lea Michele looked wonderful in her sleek Oscar de la Renta belted gown. I’m glad she stepped ou of her comfort zone and wore something that looked effortless.

January Jones looked Old Hollywood in her Carolina Herrera gown. I’m so glad she chose to cover up and look classic this time.

Mariska Hargitay: the color of this Issac Mizrahi gown and minimal accessories worked wonders.

Jane Lynch: I love the two-tiered skirt on this Ali Rahimi original.

Julia Styles: the navy to white fade on this Monique Lhuillier gown looks amazing.

And now for worst dressed: Kim Kardashian. She’s way too bedazzled for her own good. The cutout on the side of this Marchesa gown is sort of trashy on her.

Winona Ryder looks scary in this Alberta Ferretti mass of white fabric. Her hairstyle does not coordinate with this look and neither do her crazy eyes.

Julie Bowen, WHAT ON EARTH WERE YOU THINKING?! Why would you ever think that was appropriate for a red carpet event. You must be crazy.

I can’t be too harsh on “Winter’s Bone” star Jennifer Lawrence because she’s new to all of this (though Hailee Steinfeld didn’t seem to have any trouble). I think this Oscar de la Renta gown would have looked better on someone else, though it may have been improved if Jennifer had stopped slouching.

Christina Hendricks looks like she’s wearing a robe. The fabric of this L’Wren Scott gown looks bizarre, and so does the dark eye makeup.

There seems to be some confusion about this event for Angie harmon. The actress tweeted earlier in the day “I feel like its my wedding day!!!” but I think she may have believed it. I hope that she wouldn’t actually consider walking down the aisle in this Monique Lhuillier furball.

Annette Benning and everyone else wearing nude. It just didn’t work.

Amy Adams: the Hervé Leroux white gown was just too tight.
